Bob Larson

Bob Larson: trumpet, composer, arranger.

After graduating from Columbus’ West High School and an enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, Bob attended the Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree majoring in music theory and composition. While there, Bob performed in and wrote for the award-winning Ohio State University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Tom Battenberg.

After retiring from his day job, he started where he left off, writing and arranging for big band. He has written several arrangements for Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, vocalist Dick Mackey and has been commissioned by the Mark Flugge Memorial Fund.

As a trumpet player, Bob has performed with a wide variety of music organizations, from semi-legit to jazz. In addition to Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra (since 1999), he’s a member of the Emerald City Swing Orchestra.

Starting in 2018, Bob had the opportunity to start a jazz show on radio. Bob’s Basement Jazz is broadcast 3 times a week on two Columbus low-power FM stations: Saturdays and Thursdays from 8-10pm Eastern Time on WGRN 91.9FM, and Sundays from 9-11pm on WCRS 92.7 or 98.3FM. If you are not in range of these stations, you can listen online at WGRN.org or WCRSFM.org.

Sometime during the week, the show is moved to the archive area for listening at any time. The archive address is http://wcrsfm.org/audio/user/1875.
