Alex Burgoyne
Alex has been an active member of the Columbus music community since 2007, currently performing regularly with Flogo Shaggins, the New Basics Brass Band, and the Alex Burgoyne Quartet, among others.
As a composer, Alex writes for a variety of projects that he runs or co-runs, including Small Songs, Liver Quiver, Free Jazz Hit Parade, and the Alex Burgoyne/Stan Smith Quartet. His pieces have been featured in both Columbus Alive and The Dispatch, on Jazz Arts Group’s “4th Floor Live” and for WOSU’s Broad and High Series.
Notable recent performances include the Columbus Jazz Orchestra’s “Opera Swings Jazz”, the Billy Wolfe Octet on NPR’s Jazz Night in America in Washington DC, and an original premiere by composer Rocco DiPietro called “Three Pieces from a Children's Journey.”
Alex studied saxophone at Capital University (BM), and later Ohio University (MM). He currently works for Jazz Arts Group as the Columbus Jazz Orchestra Librarian and Digital Media Manager, as well as an adjunct instructor at Capital University.
